We are a group of breast cancer survivors in various stages of treatment and recovery. It is well documented that exercise reduces the chance of recurrence.
Our mission is to improve fitness and develop the paddling skills required for dragon boating, and to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer care in our community.
We do these things by hosting Peterborough’s Dragon Boat Festival, which as of 2025, has raised over $4.9 million dollars towards cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment, right here at our local hospital.
We also represent Peterborough and the surrounding area at other dragon boat festivals in Ontario, Canada and even Internationally.
We attend various community events and speaking engagements to raise awareness about the team and breast cancer survivorship.
Recovery after a breast cancer diagnosis doesn’t just end with surgeries and treatments. Survivorship is a journey of its own and Survivors Abreast plays a huge role in this.
We are not a support group but we do support each other. There is an unmistakable bond between us, and we try to inspire hope, resilience and living life to the fullest.
